About Ching Ming Festival

Offering Guo for Fortune
Every offering has its meaning when it comes to worshipping. Sacrifices, liquors, flowers and foods made of rice. For example, Ang Ku Kueh, which also called red tortoise cake, cao zai guo, and etc. are commonly used. The name guo and kueh is similar to the pronunciation of Gue, which means “return”, “turtle” and “precious” in Mandarin. Therefore, the offering of these guo and kueh representing the expectation of the return of offspring to their family for reunion. People prayed for not only the longevity like a turtle but the precious life and health of families.
As an offering to both gods and ancestors, glutinous rice dumplings, cao zai guo contained mugwort in the glutinous rice flour, creating the soothing herbal fragrances and beautiful green skin. Stuffed with julienned white radish, seasoned dried pickles and, sometimes, dried shrimps, cao zai guo is savory and healthy.
